Ms. Nakada's Blog for the First and Second Days

Day 1 Agenda
Welcome!
Course Outlines/Expectations
First Day Letter
HW: Get C.O. Signed
Write a letter to Ms. Nakada.

My fourth period students came in and settled into their new seats in their new classroom.

I signed programs as students wrote down the agenda and homework.

Then, I passed out the syllabus and the course outlines, and we started by going over the expectations for the course. We talked about reading, writing, listening, and speaking through reading and writing workshops.

We also discussed materials, homework, assessment, and rules.

I read my first day letter, and students are to write a letter back for homework. I can't wait to read these and am excited about the upcoming school year!

Day 2 Agenda
BLOG
Collect C.O./Letters
Quote/Question/Song of the Week
The Outsiders
HW: RJ 1.1 Chapter 1 of The Outsiders

Students filed into their seats from yesterday and started writing down the agenda.

We started class by discussing a blog name and came up with "Desperate Cheetos."

Then, students made a pile at the aisle so I could collect the Course Outlines and Letters. We talked about homework routines and how, if you want to get better grades, all you have to do is work school into your after-school routine and you will do better.

After that, we started our English Notebooks by labeling our Table of Contents. We started discussing the quote of the week: "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." Ralph Waldo Emerson

Then, we answered the question of the week: What do you hope?

I played the song, "We're Going To Be Friends" by The White Stripes and, to be honest, I cried a little because that song is so sweet.

I took roll and students read a little of The Outsiders and before you know it the bell rang. That was it for the day!
