6 POEMS read
6 POEMS drafted
GOOD MORNING AMERICA! It's Xavier, the boy-ish version of your former classmate, Yonina. To start this fabulous day, we wrote our agenda in our binder reminders and went on with the rest of our agenda. We read the poem on page six, "For Black Poets Who Think of Suicide" by Ethridge Knight.
This poem hit hard. PERIODT. In the beginning, the topic of the conversation was about suicide. Then, Shanylah brought up a very interesting question. She asked about why White people are being called racist for the same thing a Black person would do? (Not exact words, but my brain couldn't process that fast.) We began analyzing the poem and found three ways this poem is a poem: repetition, parallel structure, and metaphor. Basically, ALL BLACK POETS, LISTEN UP. Don't commit suicide, keep doing you, and write your poems and play your trumpet; start a conversation.
We are about half way into the class, listening to two teens from the club, Get Lit. These two keep on preaching at us. Honestly, I'm not an African American person, so this means a lot to me, but just looking at the way they are reading the poems, WOOHOO! It's a bigger meaning for them. I feel like they have friends who have committed suicide and have been in this situation. (Not for sure.) I wanna cry, wowza!
So, these two bums want me to put them in the blog. Here you go, Shovel and Toezhan!
Big Thank you to the homegirl, Kiwi! She fixed my waves!
There is about 20 minutes left in class, and I'm a bum. Everyone's writing poems, and I can't think of anything. Kuper keeps talking. SHHHH KUPER! So, now like five other people wanna be in my blog. So I'm just gonna make a list :) : Kuper, Nancy, and Anselma. My brain is slow, so I forgot the rest. Sorry class, Xavvy probably isn't getting you a point. Whoops. Anthony called me hot. I'm pulling girlfriends. That's the tea. OOP I GO TO READ THIS! Uh Oh. Bye guys.
